I LOVE HIM
Frank’s side of the
story
Mike came to hotel after some few minutes.
Immediately he saw Cynthia and I, he looked grumpy. He took me aside and
inquired to know who sent the text. I told him Cynthia did. He sighed and told
me he was thinking that I might be in some sort of trouble since the sender
used his name as a camouflage. "But how was he that quick in guessing that
I was in trouble" I murmured. Mike then said something I wasn’t able to
lay my hands on at that moment. “I was the first to sojourn to this treasure
island” Mike whispered before he shook me and left. "What does that mean?
What treasure island was he talking about?" I gnawed. I came back to where
Cynthia was. Though I was still afraid that those guys might still be around
somehow since their mission was Anti-Frank-and-Cynthia, I picked up courage not
to leave the hotel that moment. At least not so soon. I need to know who was
threatening my life. One way or the other, she might know who. Cynthia ordered
for Smirnoff ice why I ordered for a bottle soda water. That was the only thing
my body needed. I was fuming inside of me with fear and I needed something to
chill my veins. First, she apologized for texting me in that manner of which I
told her not to worry about. She didn't bother to know why Mike came there. All
she cares about was whatever that made her want to see me. For the first
time in my life, I saw a girl confessing love to me without giving me the
platform to do what I was supposed to do as a guy. I was a sort of happy and
sad at the same time, but the threat I received from those horrible looking
guys was still hovering around my memory. Cynthia said all she wanted to say to
me, expecting a good reply from me. I was only able to tell her that it won’t
work out for the both of us. I never meant that but it just jumped out of my
mouth from the part of me that was sheepishly afraid. You could imagine the
look on her face. She couldn't believe it. She stood and stared at me for a
while with cloudy eyes and all she could say was " Its fine, I don't
deserve to be loved. Seems like I don't deserve what I want". As she was
about leaving, something inside of me held her hand. She turned to look me in
the face but before she could open her mouth to say a word, I implanted a kiss
on her lips and before I knew it, we were already kissing passionately not
minding the fact that people were sited at various positions there. Some people
grabbed their phones and you know what follows suit. I couldn't believe that I
was kissing a girl in a public. She pulled her face and looking into my eyes
she asked why I had to kiss her. At that moment, I remember those guys. I felt
weakened and I sat down. Cynthia came closer and asked me what was wrong. She
then wanted to know if anything was wrong starting from the first day she
called me and how I replied her to that day. I was only able to tell her that I
love her but something was drawing me back. I told her not to worry that
nothing can stop me from loving her. I knew she wasn’t satisfied with those
words. She really wanted to know what was wrong but I wasn’t ready to let her
know the simplest of it all. My mind at that moment was already made up to take
every risk that might came out of it. Seriously that was the first time I was
this close to getting something I had never had, someone that really loved me
irrespective of my financial state. She hugged me tightly and whispered to my
ears. “Now, I can sleep soundly but you have to tell me what is wrong. You are
freaking me out already, but am okay for now, your words are just enough for me
now. maybe you can tell me what the problem is next time.” But what I couldn’t
place my hands on was why a young lady will love me that much even though she
knew nothing about me. So, I asked her what the attraction was and she said
that it was love at first sight. She said she felt the connection the moment we
met. We were still deep in our what I could call a romantic query session when
I sighted some guys entering the gate. At first, they looked more like every
other guy entering the hotel but when I looked closely, I noticed that they had
no direction in particular. They were just perching around and looking in the
direction of the bar. One of them pointer to our table and they hurried to
where we were but the dancing in the compound made it difficult for them to get
through quickly. Cynthia noticed that I was nervous and sweating while the
environment was cool. I told her that there was a big problem and that as such
we need to leave but the problem was that we needed another way out. That was
my first time there and I know nothing about a second exit. "What's
wrong, why are you acting weird?" she asked. "Just show me a way out
of here if u know any and do it now." She pointed at the end of the bar.
"The door over there leads to the engine room and the rest-room. I think
there is an exit to the back gate there. Without further ado, I grabbed her by
the hand and we left the bar through the side door. We both entered the back of
the hotel and made our way to the back gate. The place looked like another
world from the hotel. The hotel looks good and nice from the outside but that
back there was so unkept. The place stinks from mixtures of urine and spilled
oil. On getting outside, one of the guys who seemed to be the driver started running
towards our direction and also making a call at the same time. I asked Cynthia
to give me her car keys since I was very good in handling the wheels. I learnt
driving during my second year in school with my guy's car who was a G guy.
Before the guy could get close to us, I had already sped off. I checked the
side mirror to make sure we were not being followed, but unfortunately for me,
they were already closing in on us. I accelerated the and drove like a hungry
lion chasing its prey. For 3 minutes or more, they were still giving us a hot
pursuit. At that moment, I was unsure of what of do. Damn! How does Vin Diesel
make those moves while on the wheels in movies? Seriously, there are no good
roads leading to the nearest police station and 911 is not Nigeria sort of a
thing. Worst of it all, Owerri is just like a carefree city. Nobody comes to
your rescue when you are being robbed. While driving, I was shouting for help
and nobody cared to help. Suddenly, I remembered a very busy area along Douglas
where big tankers are always seen. I drove to that direction hoping for a
tanker to block the road for the guys after I must have passed. A sort of the
things I see in the movies. But if I should run into traffic, then am done for.
Fortunately for me, I had just passed a junction when I heard something that
sounded like a collision and there came the cries of people.
