IF THERE IS GOD...
If there is a God…!
This phrase “if there is God…”
comes to some people’s mouth when they face challenges in life. They tend to
question the existence of God because they were trusting and believing that God
will help them in the time of their needs, but it seemed as if God is not forth
coming. How do you feel when your prayer request of eight, ten years or above
is yet to be answered? How do you feel after being so close to God, you still
lose what you value so much in your life?
The bible said in the book of Jeremiah
29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts
of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” This is the
word of the Lord to the prophet Jeremiah. God proclaimed that He has good
thoughts unto us. So, matter what you are passing through, if you remain
steadfast in the Lord, he won’t let you down. He will surely lift you up above
your expectations. Verse 14 of that same chapter says “And I will be found of you,
saith the Lord and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from
the nations and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord;
and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried
away captive”.
Now you see what the Lord has in
store for us. He will bring you back from all your state of afflictions to a
state of grace. He will surely deliver you as he declared in Psalms
91:14 “Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore I will deliver him; I will
set him on high, because he hath known my name” no matter the nature of
the afflictions in your life, God has promised to deliver you if you love and
know him. Knowing him here implies, having a personal relationship with him. You
can’t be far from God and expect him to always have your back. He can only have
your back when you come closer to him.
Jeremiah 18:1 talks about
the supreme nature of God. “The word which came to Jeremiah from the
Lord saying, Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause
thee to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he
wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in
the hand of the potter: so, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to
the potter to make it. Then the word of the Lord came to me saying, O! house of
Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? Saith the Lord, behold, as the
clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O! house of Israel”.
This portion of the bible is actually telling us that what you are passing through
could be God’s purpose for your life and you can’t question him. He can do
anything He wishes to do with your life because he owns it. If you read about
Jonah in the bible, God gave him a task to accomplish but refused to do it,
because he had a free will, given to him by God just like everyone of us does. What
happened? God showed him that He owns him and would make him do whatever that
please Him(God). Most times we suffer because God wants us to suffer. It could
be a means to save us from a more disastrous distraction or a way of molding us
to a better piece like he did to Joseph in the bible. Your suffering might be God’s
way of calling you to come closer to him. He owns you and can do anything he
wishes with you. Why then do you ask if there is God? Who gave you, life in the
first place? Who sustains you? It is not of him that willet but of God that
shows mercy.
God gave us free will to decide
what we do with our life but he also has the power to do with us whatever
pleases him. Desist from questioning God just like the Israelites did in the
wilderness. Draw closer to God and he will surely save you from the snares of
the fowler and from every deadly pestilence that comes your way. He said in his
words that you should come to him, all ye that are labored and heavily laden
and he will give you rest. God is the supreme being and what he wants to do
with you is exactly what he will do. He can allow the devil to torment you just
the way He did with Job. Be in the end, if you remain steadfast in Him, He will
surely come to your rescue. Trust and obey the Lord and will surely see you
through. “when we walk with the Lord, in the light of His words, what a glory he
shades on our way. While we his good will, he abides with us still and to all
who will trust and obey. Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy
in Jesus than to trust and obey”
Call upon him in the days of your
trouble and he will surely deliver you. Remember the story of Hezekiah. When God
has planned it that he will die and told him to prepare himself for his death,
Hezekiah cried unto God and God added more 15 years to his days. Call unto him
instead of complaining about what he has done to you or questioning His
existence. Have a personal relationship with God and you will be glad you did.
Have a nice week ahead beloveth. May
the peace of the Lord be with you all in Jesus name. Amen.
See you next Sunday.
